NAR: National Flood Insurance Program Extended

Many home sales and closings were in jeopardy this week after the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ended last Friday.

NFIP provides flood insurance to homeowners in participating communities in flood-prone areas, who could not otherwise obtain coverage due to cost or ineligibility. Without insurance provided through NFIP, property owners in federally designated areas across +10,000 communities nationwide could not obtain mortgages (realtor.org). Tech Jobs Going Unfilled

Companies in the Charleston Digital Corridor saw a need to show-off the increase in technology companies and jobs here, so they got together and created charlestonworks.com, a Web site that lists 150 Charleston-based technology companies and the positions they need filled.

While unemployment numbers remain alarmingly high in the Lowcountry and across the nation, the Charleston Regional Business Journal reported this week that several companies in the Charleston Digital Corridor are struggling to find the talent they need.

Recruiters for these companies say it’s tough to find people for the jobs that need filled because most people who don’t live in Charleston see our area as a tourist destination, not a place with a lot of career opportunities. Read the rest of this entry »





Free Visit with Santa!

Carolina One Real Estate on Crowfield Boulevard in Goose Creek is hosting a community event tomorrow morning, December 12, 2009, and SANTA CLAUS will be the guest of honor. Plan to arrive around 9:00 in the morning to see him ride in on a FIRE TRUCK at 9:30. Once Santa is settled kids will be able to sit on his lap and tell him all about their hopes for Christmas morning. Santa will be accepting letters from the kids as well. Pictures with Santa are available at NO COST to you. There will also be refreshments served.

This event is FREE and open to the public so bring your friends! There will be a Toys for Tots collection box for anyone who would like to donate, but there is no donation required to join in the fun.

New Truth-in-Lending Law May Help Borrowers

images-3Of the four closings I had last week, I felt my buyer client was taken advantage of at the last minute in two of them. A new law may prevent some of what happened from happening again in the future.

The first one had a slew of issues from the moment we wrote the contract and took three months to close.
